Rowsley Well Dressing 2024
Blessing of the Well at Peak Village
Rowsley C of E Primary School has once again brought the community together with its annual well-dressing event, this year celebrating our link with a school in Kolkata, India. The tradition of well dressing, which dates back centuries, involves creating intricate designs using natural materials such as flowers, leaves, seeds, and moss to decorate local wells. This year's theme, chosen and designed by the pupils, is organised by the school PTFA.
Mrs Wyer praised the PTFA for their creativity and hard work. "Each year the PTFA put a considerable amount of time and effort into creating well-dressing with our pupils. The results speak for themselves. They've not only explored the beauty of Indian culture but also the importance of teamwork and community spirit."
The well dressing remains on display for the week starting 1st July at Peak Village in Rowsley, allowing more community members to experience the creative interpretations of Indian culture. Our well-dressing event has not only celebrated a beautiful tradition, but also highlighted the importance of cultural education and community involvement.
