English

Our children start early with their pencil grip and correct posture in order to produce neat handwriting and correct letter formation. They have a funky fingers program which helps them with their fine and gross motor skills. See below for our 2023-2024 planning.

Our focus and dedication to handwriting continues throughout the school with a comprehensive plan on letter formation and a dedicated timetable slot.

Y5 & 6 have signed up to shadow the shortlisted authors and illustrators for the Yoto Carnegie Awards.  The Yoto Carnegie Award, previously known as the Greenaway Prize, chooses the best illustrated children’s book for the year.  The shortlist is announced on 13th March and the result is announced on Thursday 20th June.

We are planning on attending a Carnegie Craft day at Lady Manners School on Thursday 20th June 2024. We attended this last year and it was great fun.

This year we have registered to be 'shadowers' - where we will ‘shadow’ the judging process for the Yoto Carnegie Medals; we will read, discuss and review the books on each shortlist, engage in reading related activities, which we will then share online, and vote for our favourites to win the Shadowers’ Choice Awards. In registering for this, we will receive a free copy of all the short-listed books for our school to enjoy.

Last year, the children chose Saving Sorya as their favourite text, and we were really pleased when it was voted as the Carnegie medal winner.
